Clinical Use of the Odstock Dropped Foot Stimulator. Its Effect on the Speed and Effort of Walking.

Mon 1st Jan, 2001

This paper was the the first to show a statistically significant training effect from the use of FES for the correction of dropped foot in people who have had a stroke.  The paper describes the results from 151 people with stroke, MS or SCI who used the ODFS for 18 weeks.  ODFS users who had a stroke showed increases in walking speed both with and without the ODFS.  ODFS users who had a spinal cord injury responded in a similar way.  ODFS users who had MS only improved when the ODFS was used.
